Our Story

Engels Jewelry Co. was founded by father & son, Dennis & Mark Engels. Dennis Engels previously owned and operated Richard Engels Jewelers, a well-known name in the jewelry industry that closed its doors in January 2018, after 88 years of service to the Grand Rapids area. Dennis’ father, Richard Engels, had opened Richard Engels Jewelers in 1930.

Sustainability

Diamonds

Engels Jewelry Company has a select group of diamond suppliers that demonstrate a robust chain of custody protocol for their diamonds and have the ability to track and segregate diamonds by origin.

These suppliers are required to source diamonds that originate from specific mine operations or specific countries that have demonstrated their commitment to follow internationally recognized labor, trade, and environmental standards.

Engels also offers lab-created and recycled diamonds, both of which require no new mining.

Certified Diamonds

For a collection of diamonds, Engels Jewelry Co. includes the GIA, EGL, and IGI Diamond Origin Report to help trace the diamond from its source to its final polished state by uniquely leveraging advanced scientific analysis to deliver technical rough-to-polish diamond matching. These diamond certification companies collect and analyze physical measurements, spectroscopic data, and imaging of the diamond as a rough crystal before it is cut and polished. A unique identification number is assigned to the rough diamond. They later use this data to scientifically match the polished diamond to the original rough crystal it came from.

Recycling

Engels Jewelry Company recycles everything from paper products to precious metals. They send old gold and silver to refineries to be remade into jewelry. If you have jewelry at home that you do not wear you can sell it and Engels will recycle it for you.

Why the lion?

Lions are a symbol of excellence, strength, passion, and loyalty. At Engels Jewelry Company they focus on all of these attributes. They strive to provide excellent service to their clients. The quality of jewelry they make is exceptional and they are passionate about their customer’s designs and jewelry and are loyal to their needs. Engels Jewelry Company chose the lion as their logo to remind them of these great characteristics.
